Anyo (Forms)To give explanation to the value of “anyo”, their importance and meaning is very difficult. The significance of anyo cannot be fully explained with words. It must be experienced naturally by the practitioners. In martial arts, we do not spoonfeed our students. We set up conditions in which they would experience within themselves the state of mind that they were striving for.
During the first few months of a student’s introduction to anyo training, it resembles a simple dance. But as he progresses, he will experience the mind and body relationship. He will then understand slowly the principles of Jendo discussed in chapter 3 of this book. He will reach the necessary state of mind created by masters, wherein he can apply these principles. This principle is the ability to execute all actions in both martial arts and in life developed initially in the anyo called “Pagninilay” translated in English as Meditation form. The principles are the true foundation of martial arts and they vary according to masters who teach them. This state of mind being developed to the students is generally accepted in all true schools of martial arts. Only schools comparable to these exercises can accomplish these. |
